I'm confident, regardless of the scar tissue from playoff failures past
I'd say that there's only one playoff proven goalie, whom is Vasilevsky of Tampa.
Sure, Swayze of Boston, Bobrovsky of Florida, Freddy of Carolina, Shesterkin of NYR, Tristan Jarry don't scare me.
They just have had awesome regular seasons. No proven playoff records.
I can argue that Florida has more pressure as their former coach has more playoff wins and Cups in 26 years than the Panthers have in that sane time frame.

Just because Campbell had his struggles (because of his prior rib injury) or even if he's not a Top 5 goaltender; he's clearly still a #1 goaltender.
Stop the Campbell isn't a real #1 goalie slander, it's ridiculous.

The opposing team will come out hitting hard and we will see which Leafs disappear.
    They will smother Matthews.
    They will run Campbell.
    The end.

My belief is this i think the first round in the east will be the toughest round and i think if the Leafs can win the first round they can make the finals the goaltending is not quite where it probably should be but the Leafs have no question the best offensive fire power in the east so if the goaltending lets in 1 or 2 bad goals a game they have the power to score there way out of trouble then hold the lead easy to say hard to do but with everyone on the same page defensively not impossible to do.

    • C_TelKing
      C_TelKing หลายเดือนก่อน

That fire power gets shut down every year in the playoffs. We saw it in the Columbus series, we saw it in the Habs series, when the forechecking becomes aggressive and the hits start coming, the Leafs buckle. Until they can play a physical game they will never win a round. It's impossible

Dont blame the goaltending for having a 3.00 ish goals against. Dubas gave half the cap to 4 offensive forwards. If the forwards show up and do their job then yes absolutely we can grab a round. Should be going to the Cup. Just win the damn Cup DO YOUR JOB

Leafs could beat Tampa first round but Tampa is starting to turn it on. Paul has been a big piece that they needed. Kucherov and Hedman have looked like their old selves recently and it’s starting to come together. I may be a Bolts fan but I’m also not one of those fans that’s blind to only their team and biased about it. Leafs could win but Tampa still has a slight edge in my book they have 88 in goal.

Here’s the real deal. Who cares the points they all put up. This is a great regular season team. But during the playoffs unless they all buy in and sacrifice their bodies blocking shots, checking and driving the net. This team isn’t winning no playoff round. As good as it is to have all this talent. None of these stars have had to really work hard to win. Unfortunately in Toronto the media pumps players up way more then they really are.

I think Leafs fans are panicking with the goaltending.
Even if Jack isn't a Top 5 goaltender (which he's clearly shown potential in strides to be, especially prior to his rib injury), he's still a clear cut #1 tender.
People need to stop that slander.
The fact no one is talking about a mirror of last year via an Elite Power Play suddenly becoming very poor.. now that's more of a true concern for me, especially with the fire power we have.

The Leafs have a better than fair chance to win the cup.
Stay healthy and anything can happen. Jostling the offensive lines is critical to keeping other teams on their toes. If Keefe reverts back to his predictable line ups it puts the Leafs in a vulnerable one dimensional play. I have been saying it for a long time. This team is similar to the 1980's Oilers and Sather was always jostling his offensive lines. With all of the talent this team has they could be a handful for the other top teams. Go Leafs!

  • Myles H Patterson
    Myles H Patterson หลายเดือนก่อน

All and all! This season has always been the Leafs show up and win with strong opponents if rested for a day and not doing a back to back with the other team rested for a day hence Panters and Leafs after Tampa.
But what concerns me is they have fallen to teams way back in the standings with teams that should be and easy win.
But if their going to get past the first round and I heard from Elliot Friedman I think and yet believe the will has got to match the skill and that is playoff Hockey!

Your right Andrew, goaltending is our weakness. If Soupy is on his game and it looks like he is getting there...we could surprise Tampa. If the Leafs were to play Boston which I don't think that will happen now, we would win that round. My concern also is we may not have Muzzin and Sandin for the playoffs. That thins out our depth on the blueline. The good thing is the Leafs are NOT going to give out too much info before the playoffs start, and that is the way it should be. If we can beat Tampa 1st round, it will show me the Leafs can win the 2nd round! Go Leafs Go!

I believe this team can get by the 2nd round. That will be a successful season to me at this point. They don't look ready to challenge for the Stanley Cup. They will have more money in the next two years. They need a couple more pieces to become more of a force.

Tampa and is the likely draw but they are by far the worst draw.
Florida is a run ‘n gun team that will suit our style of free flowing style despite requiring to deal with an offence that matches ours. Tampa know what they are doing and may have over 100 points in “cruise control” as they are aware playoffs matter not regular season, this is concerning as we a currency drawn against the defending champions who can step things up in the playoffs. Boston, although they may have a mental edge are the most beatable team. They aren’t the juggernaut of the Chara Rask days (hence they traded so much for Lindholm) (prob won’t be enough for them) and we have handled them well lately, Leaf’s guns have matured to 25 years old, I think we beat Boston is 5 or 6 maximum.
Tampa? We just gotta hope and pray they can’t turn things up defensively and between the pipes like the last two seasons or it’s gonna be tougher to advance. Not impossible, just seems more imposing

    Rawlee W หลายเดือนก่อน +3

If Matthews and Marner don't lay another egg then yes!
Also 4th line has to be Clifford Blackwell Simmonds. We need a line that can match physicality and energize the rest of the lineup.

    • Rawlee W
      Rawlee W หลายเดือนก่อน

@Aparks 🎤🎨 Kucherov was already ppg or over in 2 seperate deep playoff runs before these last 2. Was also part of a cup final his 2nd year in the league. Please check statistics before tossing claims around willy nilly.
Marner and especially Matthews have both laid eggs multiple times. A few times one does while the other doesn't. Last year they both laid em.

    • Aparks 🎤🎨
      Aparks 🎤🎨 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Rawlee W Lol no, literally laying an egg means doing Nothing, posting next to No Points... Mathews hasn't been his Elite Self, but he has far from "laid an egg" ... please understand the meaning of terms before just tossing them around willy nilly.
Kucherov was quiet ASF before his recent playoff success, so please just stop these irrelevant comparisons and be patient.
Myself and Many Fans are well aware they Could Do Better, yes especially for being two of the highest paid on the team, but really it's only Marner who has struggled out of the top 4 paid Leafs... can't even count Tavares because he only played the 1 period last year.
And as for Marner, the kids improved immensely with his shot and overall physical play, and I expect that will translate to more playoff success.

    • Rawlee W
      Rawlee W หลายเดือนก่อน

@Aparks 🎤🎨 26 in 32 for a ppg game player is 150% laying an egg. Especially when he makes as much as he does.
Go check out Kucherov and points playoffs numbers the last 2 years. That's whats expected out of Marner and Matthews.

    • Aparks 🎤🎨
      Aparks 🎤🎨 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Matthews never laid an egg, he still produces in the playoffs (26 pts in 32 games) ... some of those games he faced a steller Carey Price, where he then stopped a lot of elite players in further rounds up until the cup final.

I believe they have what it takes to win a round or 2. Leafs blue line was always in the lower half of the league and I believe they are now in the upper half. They have more than 2 hitters, the forwards have bought into playing 2 way hockey and as a 5 man unit, although they have many slip ups it’s great to see these major improvements. If they’re healthy going into the series I believe they can beat Tampa or Boston. I don’t like their chances against the Panthers but it’s still doable. Their depth will need to step up and this year they actually have 4 lines that can play.

This team is vastly improved over the last two rosters which were booted in the first round.
I have been lamenting over the lack of physical play on Leaf teams forEVER!
You can get away with having smaller skilled teams in the regular season, but you will NEVER get away with it in the playoffs!!
Last season Marner was suffocated and crushed so bad that he was afraid to hold the puck and often just got rid of it before he got nailed!! Exactly NOBODY came out to make the enemy pay for their liberties on our skilled players!!
This is why I was so disappointed that Dubas resigned Simmonds not to one year, but TWO!!
The ONLY Leaf who even attempted to fill that role was Foligno, and he was crushed out of the playoffs!! After we lost him, the abuse continued!!
Simmonds game has improved, but he isn't putting up the points we expected him to, and he hasn't been that physical!! Yes, he's dropped the gloves a few times, but that will not cut it in playoffs!
Dubas FINALLY got the memo and brought in several great physical players in Giordano, Lyubushkin on defence which vastly improved that position.
He also brought in Colin Blackwell and reacquired Clifford!!
Kallgren has been pretty damn good as backup. I think we need to let him get more time in because I see him improving with each game. He's calm and focused and is a pretty good positional goalie.
I also believe Campbell will find his groove again, I believe he'll rise to the occasion when the playoffs start!!
This team has looked unstoppable in games, then they take a day off too often!!
But I do believe this team can go all the way as long as they stay focused and play their game day in and day out with no days off!!
BIG FAT THUMBS UP ANDUDE!! ANOTHER GREAT ONE! YOU'RE THE BEST BROTHER!!
    Jack ~'()'~

That run and gun style won't fly in the playoffs even if they do play the Bolts. The Leafs need to figure out who's going to be the main goalie going in and stick with him. They also need to get better defensively especially the forwards. I think they'll finally get past the first round for sure this time. They have the team for it. To go for the cup I'm not sure.

  • Paul Elliott
    Paul Elliott หลายเดือนก่อน

Goal is a concern, and grit is a concern. Leafs tend to have trouble handling a physical challenge, Simmonds has had the odd fight, but mostly warmed the bench, Clifford has been up and down. Leafs still do not have tough guys who can throw big hits, score a few goals, and be able to play with (and protect) the skill guys

No when the hits start flying and the forechecking becomes aggressive the Leafs always buckle. We see it every year. I think they're gonna struggle to score goals in the playoffs. So they'll need Campbell to play out his mind to have any chance at this. He's good but he's not that good.
