@Mark Smith Yeah that might work. You might be right about that gag order. Sometimes i wonder if DUmBASs even knows how to skate. Watching Cliiford play and Simmonds before that looks to me they wont be too much of a liability on the ice. They dont even have to instigate fights...their presence just need to deter any stupidity against any of our top 4 forwards. I think if our 4 forwards know they have protection...they will free wheel even more. I just noticed that against tough teams, possession of our top 4 guys drop drastically. They want to pass off as soon as they get the puck so they dont get hit.

@Vincent Lee Spezza will get moved to the wing beside Blackwell who slots in as a defensive centreman.Blackwell is a huge upgrade over both clifford and simmonds.Simmonds and clifford both lose their effectiveness because Dubas probably has a gag order on fighting.

@Rawlee WThats been my read on DUmBASs. But his addition of Lyubushkin and Giordano...theyre on right track and a big yes on Middleton. I wonder if Blackwell can play in between Simmonds and Clifford... spezza moments is becoming less and less. Simmonds Clifford and Middleton in lineup should make our softer players feel safer and play better in playoffs.

You see, Middleton does this thing called playing physically. Kyle Dubas does not understand the value of this. Which is why the Leafs are currently set to enter playoffs with the least amount of physicality of any team for the 3rd straight year.

Just think a muzzin Middleton third pairing for the playoffs. Or perhaps uou go Middleton and lyibushkin. We could actually have a true shut down tough pairing to play against

Hmmm. I think Simmonds has a NTC, and his value is low. He had his 1000 game ceremony, and is home. Perhaps he retires if he goes to the Marlies. Given the curse of injuries come playoff time perhaps he is kept as insurance and is bought out in the off season?

@Allen Tam Jacob chychrun would require you to literally empty everything. Robertson ,1st, knies, 2 3rds . All this because you'd also need salary retention.

@kevin b Prefers he stays out of lineup so we have room for another tough D and also use his cap space to improve somewhere else. Muzzin's cap hit of $5,625,000 is just too high and makes him in my opinion most over rated over paid dman in league. Muzzin is also probably slowest Dman in league and his play has been depreciating in last couple of years.

@Allen Tam i have a better term for Dubas which ive been using....DUmBASs. Surprised hes making moves in right direction with this and Lyubushkin. Too bad it took him this long to realize we need shanny hockey instead of his shinny hockey.

Leafs their AHL team borrow is his services I believe until the smoke clears with the trade deadline.. I don't think Dubus wants to trade him as he is a top future prospect of the leafs.

I'd say he got a pretty fair chance. He got some time playing on the 2nd line as well as power play minutes. I don't think he's NHL ready

So the $ conversation even if Mrazek clears we save 1.1mill and around 1 with Clifford being waived. that's about 2.1mill. Now say we are blessed with Mrazek gets claimed, that's 1mill plus full Mrazek contract 3.85. Alas I have a bad feeling Mrazek squeaks through and we lose Sateri like Jared McCann. Either way though we aren't done, we have 8 D no way Sandin sits/Lily for I think Holl goes.

Don’t forget we can still trade holl. That will clear up 2 mill in cap space and we still have a 1st rounder worst comes to worst.

What they really need is a long term RHD that can solidify the second pairing I think what Dubas is hoping for though is to sign gio to an extension at a discount.

it's going to be Reilly, Lybushkin / Gio, Brodie / with the last line likely Sandin Holl. This is a massive upgrade to what it has been and Sandin and Holl can concentrate on being a better version of what they already are and are good at. It's all players who have played together for years except for Reilly Lybushkin and they seem to fit together very well. They have been pushing Holl to add some offensive capability to his game and he's suffered defensively because of it. This will give him a chance to roll that back a bit and concentrate on shutting down the ice in a game he's used to with a partner he knows.

@Michael It was a sloppy game last night by most of the team. All the teams have figured out, if you hit Willy on the boards once, he is done for the night. Willy hasen't shown up for the past 20+ games. He is lazy and easily gives the puck away...this is NOT a good thing in the playoffs.

@Tiash Mitra I never thought about Garland, but that would add speed to the 2nd line to go with JT Miller.

@Dave Gray one of the reasons leafs lost last night was all the giveaways from the whole team in 1st & 2nd. Leafs had shots on goal but instead passed the puck and preds got the puck.

@Clay M Not to mention huge retention on Gio's salary. They basically paid a 2nd and a third for GIo and another second for 50% retention. That's fantastic value.

@Clay M 5'9 190lbs. Not the physical presence the Leafs need. Similar acquisitions like? What other team is tasking 21+ minutes of playoff hockey to a 38 year old. What other team paid 2 2nd round picks a 3rd for that.

@Rawlee W Despite his size, Blackwell actually lays the body quite a bit. So by no means is he another “weak small forward.” He puts up good points and is a great depth acquisition. Gio has been playing well above over 21 plus minutes a night, and has still looked good on a terrible Seattle team. Put him on the 2nd line with Brodie and that’s a great shutdown defensive pairing. If you look at what other teams had to give up for similar acquisitions, the Leafs gave up virtually nothing. This is a great trade for the Leafs.
