I think the Leafs works be better off moving Dermott and Holl, and holding onto Sandin and Lljegren. The latter look fine, not so much with Holl and Dermott the diminishing asset.

I’d rather not lose Dzingel. He hasn’t been great lately but he could bounce back and could be really solid depth. At one point he was a top 6 forward and he is only 29 now

I mean to be fair no ones been good for Arizona this season. Dzingel has been a very good two way depth forward. Loosing him for nothing seems like a generally bad call.

the dream would be jt Miller so he could play with tavares and willy or Giroux because he also gives you versatility because he plays both cntre and wing and if we get another injury to a centreman like tavares last year then the leafs have that depth

Indeed, in this year, go big or go home because if they fail the rabid fans will demand changes to their core, and, possibly their GM.
Try to plug every leak and upgrade in every position, at worst, you decrease player responsibilities and make the lineup that much more formidable in the process.

    • William rallis
      William rallis 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

… possibly their GM you say!
Shannahan and Dubas are the main problem.
Shannahan - no results in 7 years, hired Babcock - fired Babcock - that is all he has done in 7 years!
Dubas and his dream team of high flyers - failed miserably in every way.
No matter how hard he tries to fix his many errors it can only get worse with his band aid trades.
Dubas has no money. He spent all of it on four inconsistent players
Leafs are going nowhere with Dubas around!
      Shannahan - FIRED

I really think dubas should spend the assets and go for Chychurun because he is good, young and most of all signed to a really good contract for another 3 seasons after this. if it coats a 1st Robertson and liljgren or a bit more it's worth it

Pysyk is a good option seeing how he can play forward that way you can go with 7 d and 11 forwards in playoffs like you said pysyk plays 4/3 line minutes on forward then when lines 1/2 are on and he isn’t tired because of only getting like 9 minutes a night he can jump on and help them out

  • Robert Ferguson
    Robert Ferguson 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

This trade is good for the Leafs for a couple reasons.
Ritchie 2.5m is off the Leafs hands for next year. No takers on Waivers. He wasn’t being used. So his cap was taking up space. He wasn’t working out.
Trading Ritchie for two depth players whos contracts are up after this season. Also Dzingel can be buried in tue minors with his 1.1. This trade has given the Leafs some cap space flexibility. Now they won’t have to keep sending Lili down and a day or two later bring him back up. Gives the Leafs some room.
Why would the Leafs keep a player around at 2.5 for next season. Who hasn’t worked out and barely used at all? Isn’t that. A waste of cap space? Now with the two new players. Either way it gives them cap space for a move or two. Small moves. Also. Ritchie is only one of three players signed past this season for the Yotes. The rest of the players have to be signed. If people are pissed abiut the Ritchie trade. Theb they should try to build their own NHL team. And go by cap space. See what happens. Dubas took his mistake and turned it into something. Not nothing. Ritchie for how high he was drafted in my eyes is a bust. Sadly. When leafs signed him. I said let’s hope it works. I’m wondering if they thought maybe a JVR type or just a little lesser. But didn’t work out. But the Nylander puck worked out perfectly. Now I see why the Leafs picked Willie over Ritchie at their draft.

Leaf fan for 60 years. Was a fan of the Shanny plan initially but lost faith when he chose the kid Dubas instead of Lou. Should have give Lou a two year contract with the kid, his subordinate in a learning mode. Didn’t happen. Dubas has turned a team on the move to a team of shooter’s with no back-checking or hitting skills. A porous defence as proven by the amount of games the opponents have more shots as well as occasionally twice the number of hits than the Leafs do. Leafs are also worst in the league for blocking shots (little millionaire prima Donna’s afraid of a little boo-boo. SOLUTION: Fire Shanahan, Dubas and Keefe. Hire: the Hunter brothers as President of Hockey operations, who hires his own Assistant to the President..
Gen. Mgr & Coach who hires his own AGM and coaching staff. Let them decide who leaves and who to bring in. They are two proven great hockey minds and strategists. Guaranteed 2nd round minimum thus year and Stanley Cup next year.

Lljegren showed once again last night he can't do the job and it's time to move on from him. Dermott and Holl are too soft and we know that wont work in the playoffs. lyubushin with Sandin could work well and we have Riley and Broadie. So we have 3 Dmen we can trade to get someone with Muzzin who can move the puck quickly.

Very good analysis Andrew. Haven't seen enough of Pisyk to make a judgement, but Dubas likely looking at him. Or... he's a subscriber to your channel, and is now thinking about it. I've been saying for awhile now that Holl has been an elephant on the back of Muzzin for a long time, and Muzzin now starting to show signs of burn out. Is it automatic that Luybushkin is bottom pair? I've heard he's been Chychyrun's partner all season. Maybe leafs want to try him out with Muzzin, put Holl with Sandin. If it works out, Dermott gets traded. Think Dermott is odd man out anyway.

@Andrew Piluk Hockey … Klingberg is a UFA (so adding a 1st or 2nd rounder likely in a weak draft year). Cap space not a problem since Klingberg’s salary is just the balance of the year ($2.5M)

They will obviously make another trade for at least one more D man. Last game Liliegren (18 Mins) Sandin (18 Mins) Hol (18 Mins). That's 54 Minutes of ice time that needs to be reduced. Lybushkin can take 10 minutes of that, so you need a guy to eat more minutes. The good teams are deep and will put too much pressure on these three. Three of Sandin, Hol, Lilegren, Dermott should be playing 8-12 minutes per game at certain times.

I agree that the Leafs have not finished making moves.Ilya was a good add,he leads the Leafs in hits before he ever plays for them, and thats something they really needed,as opposition forwards knew the Leafs zone was pretty much a no hit area. What i do wonder is..what is the value for Holl and Dermott?, i dont see much value in a 29 year old Holl @2M playing the way he has this season,I do see some value to Dermott because he is still youngish, and perhaps on a different team, with a different defensive system could be a useful player...I just dont know what the return would be unless they are moved with a pick or prospect.

I absolutely believe they'll be more moves but this is simply to be cap compliant by the 5pm deadline. They likely hope he clears so they can send him to the Marlies and zero of his salary will count towards the cap (Downtown Steven Brown stated this because his contract value is under the max that you can bury in the minors, if he doesn't get claimed and he's sent down, none of it will count against the cap) but if he's claimed, oh well.. they can always try to get a depth forward from somewhere else when they move either Holl or Dermott..

I think you don't quite understand the options Lyubushkin provides the team. Lyubushkin played mostly on the top pair in Arizona. His plus/minus is minus 6. Normally, I don't look at +/- because it's a garbage stat, but in this case it's telling. To be minus 6 playing top pair minutes against tougher competition on a team that is -74 in goal differential is pretty crazy. Something I would like them to try is this
    Rielly - Lyubushkin
    Muzzin - Brodie
    Sandin - Holl
This would still give Rielly a reliable partner to stay back, it would provide Muzzin with great, reliable D partner. Not to mention, you have a heavy hitter on both pairs. I'm not saying the Lyubushkin is a top pair guy, but it could work

Dubas is going all in trading 2025 2nd rounders - he knows he won't be around if this doesn't work, so no risk. Shanahan has to start thinking about Dubas trading away all future draft picks again - that's what is killing them now. No picks that turn into prospects and solid NHL'ers since they got lucky with Matthews on the lottery and Marner.

    IF Dubas continues like this
it means that he has no idea of what he is doing clear and obvious and
further confirms my concerns that Dubas must be FIRED.
Dubas spent all the money on the inconsistent top four a huge error one huge error of many.
Now he is flailing around doing nothing but just making it look good.
IF Dubas has to everyone on waivers to find out if they fit then Dubas has no clue.
Leafs require tough guys with some or a lot of talent.
Dubas has no money for such players.
Dubas has made a big mess of everything.
If Dubas had the money he could have signed Petroangelo on defence!
… states on paper mean something but not everything and is not the only criteria required.
    NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS ‘THIS’ the following is Leafs reality;
Mathews and Marner are easily shut down.
The high flying Leafs cannot endure brutal physical combat hockey as required in the playoffs.
The Leafs will get the crap kicked out of them and go nowhere.
    … it is already starting.
DUBAS can do nothing to fix his many huge errors.
DUBAS - FIRED and no results Shannahan can follow him out the door.
Dubas put a shit collection of players together.
The Leafs are not a team!
    Good day!

@Andrew Piluk Hockey I disagree Andrew. Sandin is being an asset WHILE he's still developing. Liljegren is not. Also, this is not the year to be experimenting with Liljegren in the top 6 or 7. It's go for a Stanley Cup time, Andrew. It cannot be jeopardized by using a talented but soft player who even on decent nights, makes mistakes. Play him 25 minutes a night... in the AHL.

He can protect the puck and out muscle players with his skill. He has offensive upside. He can also shoot. Him and Sandin were my favourite players on the Marlies for years.

The $1.4M cap hit of Lyubushkin seems a little steep for a guy who just focuses all of his energy trying to get the puck out of the Leafs' zone when hemmed in down low, who doesn't have the speed to defend off the rush, who can't really move the puck, or create any offense for his line whatsoever. If the Leafs plan on getting into situations where this guy may or may not be of any use to them, then they are behind the 8-ball already. That's just my opinion though, I guess we will see.

@Joe Blythe only a cigar? Lol ill be doing more than that. I will absolutely leave my province and go to Ontario to see the parade and party like no other. Probably die at peace knowing that my beloved team finally gave me extreme happiness
But yes a nice cigar sounds awesome.
Anyways horrible game last night and well no time to sulk.
      Be happy my friend. Cheers

@Paolo Amati Thanks my friend! I have a Cuban cigar in a case that I look at every night before bed. And I will not open it and smoke it until the Leafs win the cup. But I tell myself every day or so "I'll be smoking this cigar this year. Oh yes, I'll be smoking this cigar." And it would be a shame if this cigar ended up sitting there for another 30 years and getting stale.

@Joe Blythe you're still a veteran in my eyes. Lol
But come on. Look at the Lightning? They are made for playoff hockey. Tough, muckers, great goalie
But would you have thought toronto would have learned their lesson by now? No. My theory is that we are the mecca of hockey and ownership is more concerned with money than to win.
I don't know anymore. Just sad watching Matthews and company getting older but not wiser.

@Paolo Amati I've only been a Leafs fan for about 30 years, so I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for you to continuously watch this team flop in the regular season or playoffs. I do feel your pain, for what my more limited experience is worth. And the more I think about it, the more I'm actually on board with Dubas adding defensive only players to this team. I mean, it would have been nice to have another shut-down player on the team in 2013, when the Leafs blew a 4-1 lead against Boston in game 7. In a situation like that, a d-zone shut-down player could have several shifts where they are worth MUCH more against the cap than most other players on the team, and that could make or break their entire season. I'm still not crazy about Lyubushkin's cap hit, but if he can do what he is advertised to be able to do, of course I will accept him into Leafs nation, and I will root for him to succeed regardless of what happens.

@Joe Blythe thanks for answering. I have been a Leafs fan for 52 years and saw some ups but historically the lows of following this franchise.
What I mean by defense is mostly guys who are very defensively responsible and could conceivably work with a rather more offensive partner.
We need toughness and size. I just feel if Dubas screws this up then he loses his job.
I have gone through too much heartache and with the talent up front there shouldn't be anymore excuses.

Maybe Muzzin is the problem not everyone else. Maybe Muzzin should be on the 3rd pairing. His physical play has evaporated.

His salary is too high for a 3rd line defenceman. Something has to happen here. Let's hope Lyubushkin can eat some minutes and make a positive contribution back there!

Because the coyotes are an ECHL team and they have to trade money in and money out. They wouldn't bring in Ritchie then not trade the amount they are getting.

I am going to throw a curve ball suggestion. I am going to suggest the Leafs find that big name defenseman they want and trade the likes of Nylander to bring that D-man in with some term. Loosing Nylander will hurt but the cap crunch is just too tight given that they want that dman and will need to sign Campbell in the off season. Nylander is a top scorer, but he lacks the physical side of his game. I think he is just too soft and that does not play well in the playoffs. Interested to see others thoughts...

They need another top 6 forward and top pair defenceman. Couldn’t hurt to maybe pick up a goalie if the price is right considering Mrazek hasn’t been the best.
