really rooting for galchenyuk coming back, nice to hear others liking what they saw from him this season. the 2nd line was great with him on it. i think it would be a shame to not sign him to a decently cheap deal.

Absolutely give Galchenyuk an offer based on what he's shown. and I think you're right with 2 years about 1.250 per.

    • Michael Kirkpatrick
      Michael Kirkpatrick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Go Leafs Go - Have a feeling he wants more money and a 2 yr term, but Leafs not into it. I'll be surprised if he returns. Rumour has it the Habs might bring him back to Mtl.

    • Go Leafs Go
      Go Leafs Go 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Michael Kirkpatrick kind of in agreement MK. Although I do like his hustle and if the kid could get back a bit of his scoring touch he could give you 20 maybe 25 goals if used correctly? Sign him to nothing more then a one year contract though, anything more and he gets to comfortable and stops skating imo.

    • Michael Kirkpatrick
      Michael Kirkpatrick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'd "maybe" offer him 1.1 M for 1 year if they're desperate. He's not scoring, bounces around on the lines, and doesn't play defensively. I don't see why lot of fans see him as so valuable. Leafs are likely not sure where he fits, or if he really fits, and if he does, what do u offer him? Not hearing a lot of talk about him as a UFA. The fact no other team has jumped on him by now should tell you something.

    • Fred Frond
      Fred Frond 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Me two. I agree 100% with the Galchenyuk signing. I was surprised the Leafs have not already signed him already just like Andrew was. I imagine the plus minus on the Nylander line was pretty good for the playoffs.

@Michael Kirkpatrick mikheyev is not the problem he’s a spark plug and he wins a ton of races to pucks ... id move Kerfoot for a better face off guy and use some money a vet d man like a gudbranson to come in and just destroy the top talent on the opposition

    • Michael Kirkpatrick
      Michael Kirkpatrick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I would not take either of them. Engvall won;t be on the leafs opening night roster. Either traded, or in the AHL. Leafs would like to trade Mikheyev, but will not be easy, with that ridiculous salary, even if it is for just one more year.

We need player's like domi. I've had enough of Toronto being thrown around out on the ice. and to stand up for are star player's. We need a couple of more player's like domi on the team. And we need a very good defense men

  • Shawn Stewart
    Shawn Stewart 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Lowering domi’s cap would be up to Columbus to figure out mostly. They are the ones that want to get rid of him and clearly nobody wants to pay that cap hit. If we wanted a third team to eat more then maybe we have to pay for that but Columbus would be taking half.

They're looking at giving Kampf 14+ minutes. He's not going to be on the 4th line. Kerfoot is going to be on LW. The stuff I've heard about Tie Domi ... I'm not even sure I'd want his son on the team.

  • CC 19
    CC 19 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Max domi would be good but he would need to be making 50%-75% retained. I would def give up some picks and prospects for him to try it out but
    Could be another Naz mistake.

Loved the video. In my personal ACGM I had Galchenyuk signed at $1.35M-$1.50M x 2 yrs. I think his forecheck and raw talent is very complementary to an offensively-minded line.
Not a fan of the Max Domi idea. And like... check his hits stats, he really isnt much of a physical player. I thought he was going into last year/2 years ago but watching his tape the guy floats too much. Just seems physical because he can be tenacious when motivated, and sometimes gets really aggressive.
PS I loved your excitement during your livestream with DSB at the idea of a Robertson-McCann-Spezza line, sad we wont get to see it.

  • Snapper 77

I think Dubas did a really good job this off season playing money ball. There’s lots of potential for al the players to fit into their lineup in some key roles for bargain prices

    • Michael Kirkpatrick
      Michael Kirkpatrick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Snapper 77 yeah.. true to a degree. I'm still on the fence with this guy... lot of Bruin fans are not exactly singing the praises about him. It's not like we saw Ritchie play every game or anything. Guess only time will tell on him. Either he's a hit, or a total flop

    • Snapper 77
      Snapper 77 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Michael Kirkpatrick lol I am not overly worried about penalties the refs always try and even them out where one team gets a penalty and the refs look for something to even it out.

    • Michael Kirkpatrick
      Michael Kirkpatrick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Roger Cheff wrong.. I'm above average lol. Dubas is a lightweight, who should have never been given the job in the 1st place. I like Bunting, from what I've seen. Kase is a low risk gamble, that could have a good payoff if he can get healthy. Ritchie got too much money. Not sold on him, other than needed physical presence. I'm furious that Hyman is gone, and was not a fan of the Kadri trade. Dubas is the reason the leafs are in this mess.

    • Michael Kirkpatrick
      Michael Kirkpatrick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Snapper 77 - you make some good points, especially adding physical presence if he does spend time on the 1st line. Maybe Marner would be a little less scared of any contact if he knew Ritchie had his back. Ritchie is notorious for taking bad penalties, but maybe Keefe can turn that bad habit around.

      Michael Kirkpatrick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I agree. Bit surprised he has so many fans wanting him back. If he's so good, why haven't the leafs or anyone else signed him by now? Maybe he's looking for more money than anyone wants to pay for what they get. He might be headed to the KHL, who knows...

Galchenyuk would be a good choice to re-sign, but apparently Galchenyuk wants more than 1.2 million per season. I think as the off season goes on and Galchenyuk is not signed with any other team, he will be offered a 1 million dollar contract for 1 yr.

@J.A. Scott If they're not, they should be. Galchenyk could do all kinds of good things, but that one brutal bonehead play is what defines him. His hockey IQ is not high enough. Leafs can move on from him. 6 months from now, it will be "Alex who?"

In my oppinion the leafs are just about done at the forward position. The only signings of forwards you will see from now is defensive, heavy hitting gritty guys who can play 3rd fourth line minutes as shutdown. Thats not Galchenyuk. To do this they will likely look to move on from Mikheyev. I see them wanting to keep Engvall in the organization. They would rather bury him in the minors than trade him. You will see the leafs pick up another defencman or two at 750k and also another forward at 750k and they will be done.

    • Michael Kirkpatrick
      Michael Kirkpatrick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

You could be right. Everyone clamoring for a bona fide top 6 LW, but unless Dubas can package a trade that gets rid of deadwood like Engvall and Mikheyev, plus maybe Liljgren (the new Martin Marinson) for a top 6 LW, not much going to happen. Dvorak from the coyotes would be a good add if possible.

  • Dustin Robertson

Next season: leafs finish first in division. Matthew's scores 60 goals. Marner scores 100 points. Lose in first or second round playoffs. Wash, rinse, repeat. They can't win until they learn how irrelevant regular season is compared to playoffs but they wont. Too many players wrapped up in their individual accomplishments

    • Thomas Gallina
      Thomas Gallina 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes the leafs played good all season enough to win 1st in the north. Leafs Play offs, blame the Refs and the NHL on why you have to play at a different level of penalty calling after reg season is done. That made the whole difference on who gets hurt and who wins to move on. Also Marner gave 2 games away with his mistakes along with a defence give away with a blind pass in over time. You also need some form of luck and the Habs received it.

  • Go Leafs Go
    Go Leafs Go 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

As a London Knights fan I love Dvorak. BUT, he is on the "softer" side of the game and expensive enough in his own right. Would have to move Kerfoot for sure plus another 1 or 2 Million per year contracts just to make the money work. I'm not sure Dvorak has the chemistry to fit in the super critical Toronto market even though again I love the guy and he does have history with Marner. I think the Leats are pretty much done but for a tweak or two. They are going to live or die with the core, not much else they can do really?

Dubas has greatly influenced the price of the 'cheaper' free agents by giving huge contracts to Mathews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander. None of those guys have won anything yet they are already being paid like winners. Rising tide lifts all ships. Now look at Hyman's contract in Edmonton and Nurse's too. They are not worth that. And the big 4 in Toronto aren't worth what they make either. That's the environment that he has fostered or contributed to.

Thought at first Tatar got 4.5M total for 2 years. Devils are nuts to give him that much. Leafs have enough guys who don't show up in the playoffs, don't need another one. Wouldn't go anywhere near Max Dumi at any price. He's injured anyway. Maybe Coyotes will accept Engvall. Mikhayev, and Liljgren for Dvorak. No big loss for the leafs, all 3 are AHL level. Pickings for good value ("cheap") UFA LW's are really slim now. Looks like any LW upgrade would be have to be via trade

  • Dave Atkinson
    Dave Atkinson 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

the Leafs were out goaltended in the playoffs. Campbell was solid, but it wasn't good enough. The Mrazek deal looks like nothing more than a duct tape and chewing gum solution. They have to upgrade their goaltending or they'll go nowhere. Take a look at teams that have a top tier goalie but won't be any good this year, and see if you can dangle a prospect or two to pry him away. What would it take to pry Hellebuyck out of Winnipeg? The guy sees more rubber than any other goalie in the league and is still a .916 SV%. Give him some protection and he may bring that up a bit. At 27 years old, there's still room to grow with the team.

@Michael Kirkpatrick You would need another team in the deal to get that much retained. A team can only retain up to 50%

    • Michael Kirkpatrick
      Michael Kirkpatrick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Leafs "maybe" grab him if CBJ agrees to retain 75% of his 5.3M for next season. He's injured, not scheduled to play until Nov or Dec. Even Seattle passed on him. His value has gone off a cliff. He thinks he's a centre, so goes into a tantrum if placed on the wing where he belongs. Leafs have enough prima donnas as it is.

Max Domi hasn't done anything noteworthy in his career. He was a highly touted prospect who has already been traded twice in his young career. He's a bad fit for the Leafs precisely because of who his dad is. People will expect him to drop the gloves and he's not that type of player. He is skilled but he has not produced up to expectations. @Roger Cheff - well... he might have been there to support him through a tough period. No matter.. Domi's overpaid and over rated. He's going to be out till late November as well. Some team might take him at next year's trade deadline.

Domi will have his father tie to talk to him about that. On being a better player and teammate in the dressing room and on the ice.

I'd prefer Evander Kane over Domi. Since the Sharks are looking to move him, they would probabaly retain some salary and he would be the perfect top 6 winger imo we could use, as much as we may like the Bunting expirement based on last year, Kane is a guy you can count on for at least 20 goals

I would wait until Sharks buy him out .Then I mighttake a flyer on a cheaper one year deal if there are no other takers.

Max Domi is a cancer on a team. Columbus was ready to give him up for nothing

    • Zain
      Zain 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thats not necessarily because he’s a cancer. He’s on an expiring deal, getting surgery and will miss a few months of the season, and is coming off a bad year

Who is calling for Domi? If it’s idiots like stormin Norman Rumack or his ilk don’t do it. I am old enough to remember when those idiots screamed for the return of Wendel Clarke. The knuckle heads said that Wendel was the man to turn around the Leafs and they had a whole chorus baying for Wendel to be brought back. I even remember Fletcher saying, at the conclusion of the deal, “ you asked for it”. Like I am washing my hands of this crap deal. The leafs got a broken down Wendel, no disrespect to mr. Clarke because he was broken down from giving everything he had in every game he played.
The leafs ended up trading away Kenny Jonson who went on to three all star appearances for the then crappy islanders, so he had to be good, and retired the captain of the islanders. Also the leafs gave away the dreaded first round draft choice. With which they drafted Roberto Luongo and then, like the idiots the islanders were, they promptly traded away Luongo to the Vancouver Canucks where he provided almost 20 years of excellent goal tending.

Bunting, Ritchie and Kampf are all good additions -- if they play their appropriate bottom-six roles. But we know the gaps in the top-six will have them move up. Max Domi is trash. I'm not a Galchenyuk guy and Leafs fans vastly overrate him, but he's still a decent option for $1m. Tatar would've been good, but we don't need more playoff chokers. We have plenty of those to go around. Nobody is talking about the holes we have in our defense. We lack depth there, too.

Leafs should of made a serious stab a denault considering he completely shut down there precious core 4. Even if they had to deal marner, he literally makes half what marner does and if your gonna crucify someone for a turnover how about tossing it over the glass for a 5 on 3

Galchenyuk was decent on that second line. But dubas isnt looking for DECENT hes looking for a guy who can take this team to the next level that can play up and down the lineup. Galchenyuk isnt it. I'm intrigued by the Bunting signing just because he played will with Arizonas top players and hes super cheap. To my Galchenyuk would be a waste of 1.25M. With his inconsistency and to sign him to a 2 year deal. no thanks. If hes coming back here its for a 1 year 850k. No more. The reason why Galchenyuk doesnt fit on this roster is because you can retty much pencil in Buntin on one of the top 2 lines. Im pretty sure theyre looking at playing Ritchie on the other one because they sure havent gt him for his defencive play, and theyre trying to turn that third line into a defensive line . So Galcheckyuk does NOT fit into this lineup at this point and they need to move on. They tried him , he did decent but he wasnt the one to push them over the top.

Keerfoot and Dermott for Domi and one mil retained who would give his all for the Leafs.

  • Old Man
    Old Man 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Galchenyuk's poor defensive play is a constant. Regardless of who he plays with his line gives up more high danger chances than it creates. The Kerfoot, Galchenyuk, Kefoot line was no exceptions to this. His OT blunder was one of many, not a single glaring mistake in an otherwise great run. At a million bucks or less a year he is a decent enough add. If he wants to be paid more than can be buried in the AHL he is a hard pass. Keefe had two lines that had to be sheltered against the Habs and that forced him to make a lot of bad choices. Dubas is on the right track adding players that won't throw games away.

Trade them kerfoot, or threeway nylander with nyr. Trouba, kappo to columbus. Nylander to rangers and max to the leafs. Why he's what the fans need. The legacy tie domi's kid and he has three quarters of nylanders skill. Exactly three quarters and could be precisely what they need. Reunited with marner they'd go crazy.
